Position summary
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer is responsible for actively supporting EHS Cultural Excellence through collaboration and personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment, promoting a culture to address incidents, near-misses and potential hazards.
Essential Job Functions
- Apply scientific, engineering principles and behavioral based systems to drive EHS risk reduction efforts and compliance activities.
- Take ownership of site EHS programs & training including but not limited to: Environmental Compliance, Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Chemical Safety, Site Emergency Coordination, Waste Management, Hearing Conservation, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Coach and/or lead investigate workplace incidents and complete root cause analyses to determine appropriate corrective actions and conduct assessments of processes in order to reduce risk.
- Assist in the completion of internal and external EHS compliance reports and analyze EHS data and report trends. Recommending plans for correction of gaps and provide EHS input to address change (e.g., site Management of Change process)
- Support on-going industrial hygiene chemical and noise assessments and monitoring plans; implement ergonomic programs to reduce risk of cumulative trauma and other ergonomic injuries at the site.
- Participate and/or lead portions of EHS self-assessments and/or audits. Act as a facility representative during agency inspections, including but not limited to EPA, OSHA, fire department, and county.
- Provide EHS knowledge and services on existing and new programs; communicating project or program status and results to management.
- Convey the meaning and importance of EHS topics to non-EHS personnel and to influence others to take appropriate action based on such information. Actively seeking to continually improve communication and presentation skills
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to site by leading or assisting in safety committee teams and meetings, including EHS regulatory interpretations.
- Provide EHS support in the design and installation of new or modified equipment, industrial automation, and assist with implementing management of change processes.
